I think the author got in the way of his own writing at times. In the first chapter, Brett, the main character, is “visited” by her beloved grandmother, who has just died. She shows us that there is light on the other side of pain. I feel those recipes are a waste and had I wanted slow cooker recipes I would have kept on using the CrockPot I happily tossed aside after decades. Philosophy and space travel are characterized by the same fundamental purpose: exploration. I believe it could be looked upon as a lesson.
